The Rangers board were left ‘impressed’ by former defender Giovanni van Bronckhorst after discussions with the Dutch coach over the weekend.
According to Sky Sports News, Van Bronckhorst’s values and ideas gave off a positive impression on Rangers. The two parties reportedly met in London on Saturday as the club seek to find Steven Gerrard’s successor.
As per the report, Van Bronckhorst is on a three-man shortlist of candidates who could take over the Rangers job. One name who is on the list is Frank Lampard, who was linked with the role following Gerrard’s departure.
Indeed, Van Bronckhorst appears to be the favourite to take over from the now-Aston Villa coach. With the former Dutch international being a former Rangers playing and having some success in his managerial career.
Van Bronckhorst led Feyenoord to the 2017 Eredivisie title as well as two KNVB Cups. And the former Barcelona star could be a solid fit for Rangers given his experience as both a player and as a manager.
Replacing Gerrard will be a task that the Rangers board want to get right at the first opportunity. And Van Bronckhorst more than fits the bill of what the Glasgow giants are looking for.
Rangers will be hoping to appoint Van Bronckhorst soon

With Rangers having a slew of important games coming up soon, a new manager on the touchline will be needed in the coming days. And Van Bronckhorst’s credentials and links to the club make him perfect to succeed in Scotland.
With the Dutchman showing he can win silverware in a competitive division, Van Bronckhorst could be ideal to take the Rangers job for the remainder of the season and potentially beyond should he impress.
