Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers had Caulker at Swansea City – and it would appear he wants the QPR man at Parkhead as well.

Celtic have held talks with Steven Caulker and are set to offer the Queens Park Rangers defender a chance to rebuild his career at Parkhead, according to The Mirror.

Caulker’s contract – worth £30,000-a-week according to The Daily Mail – expires next summer and QPR are said to want him off their wage bill, with a cut-price deal described as ‘likely’.

It follows a difficult campaign for the once-capped England centre-back, who lost his place to injury and then saw a January move to Lokomotiv Moscow fall through, leading to well-documented off-field problems.

But a reunion with former boss Brendan Rodgers at Celtic could be the lift Caulker’s career requires, having previously impressed under the Ulsterman during a loan spell at Swansea City.

Caulker could replace his former Liverpool teammate Kolo Toure at Parkhead, with the Ivorian’s contract expiring at the end of last month.

Rodgers did, however, tell The Scottish Sun recently that he would like Toure to stay on in some capacity, be it as a player or otherwise.

Is QPR’s Caulker worth a gamble for Celtic?
