Queens Park Rangers had hopes to sign Ostersund striker Saman Ghoddos in the summer but a deal is now looking more and more unlikely.

Queens Park Rangers avoided relegation to League One by a hair’s breadth last season but the 2017/18 campaign already appears to be gearing up to bring more frustration and concern at Loftus Road.

As it stands, QPR are just four points clear of the bottom three and The Sun claimed after last week’s 1-1 draw at Sunderland that the club’s hierarchy are even considering the future of manager Ian Holloway.

Holloway has been forced to work under a stricter budget in recent times, meaning the club spent less than £1 million on transfers in the summer window. Though that would have been different had QPR managed to convince Swedish side Ostersund to part with striker Saman Gheddos in the summer.

Double your money

HITC sources told us in August that QPR had a bid of £1.8 million rejected by Ostersund with the Europa League outfit, who were in the Swedish third tier as recently as 2012, holding out for £3.6 million.

In the two months after the close of the transfer window, however, it appears that Gheddos’ valuation has increased again.

“The value is 40-50m Swedish Kronor (up to £4.6 million). That is the cost now,” Ostersund chairman Daniel Kindberg told Fotbol Direkt. “If we were to sell, for example in the winter, then it must be to a big giant. Otherwise, we want him for the Europa League.”

Ajax were credited with an interest in Gheddos over the summer and it remains to be seen whether they are the ‘giant’ Kindberg was referring to.

With QPR spending money on only two players during the summer transfer window, it appears they will now be hard pushed to meet the price-tag for a player who netted seven goals in 18 games in the Swedish league in 2017.
