Mikel Arteta is said to have asked Arsenal to bring Marco Asensio to north London, although PSG have now joined the race.

What’s the story?

Well, it was Mundo Deportivo in Spain who revealed that Arteta has asked Arsenal to sign the Spain international, with those in the boardroom at the Emirates Stadium happy to oblige.

However, they will now have to fend off PSG and their financial power if they are to sign Asensio.

Again according to Mundo Deportivo, the French giants are keen to add the 26-year-old to their already frightening frontline consisting of Lionel Messi, Kylian Mbappe and Neymar.

Asensio’s contract at Real Madrid expires when the current campaign ends, and the Spanish news outlet believe his future is currently uncertain.

They mention that Los Blancos want to keep Asensio, and are likely to offer him a contract extension.

Barcelona are also mentioned as a potential destination, while Arsenal again crop up in the story – specifically, in this fresh article, Mundo Deportivo claim that Arteta wants Asensio in January, and is therefore willing to pay a fee rather than wait for him to become a free agent.

So far this season, the Real Madrid No.11 has scored three goals and provided three assists in 15 appearances.

Arsenal can convince Asensio to ignore PSG

In our view, Arsenal cannot compete with the wages PSG are able to offer Asensio.

However, there is arguably a more attractive sporting project going on in north London, which Arteta and Edu could use to their advantage by creating an enticing pitch to the Spaniard.

The Gunners find themselves five points clear of Manchester City at the top of the Premier League, which is ideal timing for Arteta seeing as he wants to sign Asensio in January.

He merely needs to point to that fact, and earmark a clear plan for Asensio in the starting XI.

If Arteta does that, and PSG rely solely on their financial power, then we believe Arsenal can sway Asensio to north London rather than Paris.
