The 23-year-old goalkeeper is expected to complete a move to Rangers though Port Vale are determined to eke out every penny.
Rangers must pay Jak Alnwick’s transfer fee up front, the Daily Record reports, with Port Vale concerned about the Scottish giants’ finances.
The Ibrox club have endured huge monetary problems in recent seasons and, after four seasons in the lower leagues following their administration, only returned to the top flight this season.

And manager Mark Warburton has largely been forced to make do with short-term loans or free transfers so far as he attempted, albeit unsuccessfully, to bridge the huge gap between themselves and Old Firm rivals Celtic.

As a result, the Daily Record claims that Port Vale chairman Norman Smurthwaite is refusing to sanction goalkeeper Alnwick’s £250,000 move to Ibrox unless they pay the fee up front
“We don’t trust Rangers to pay the money so that money has to be received before we will cancel the contract,” a Port Vale spokesman told the Daily Record. “Unless we have the money in our bank, we won’t press that button.”
12 months on; Toumani Diagouraga should regret choosing Leeds United over Rangers
However, Rangers remain adamant that they will complete the deal before the transfer deadline.

Alnwick’s arrival will more than likely allow veteran shot-stopper Matt Gilks to leave while offering competition to hitherto undisputed number one Wes Foderingham.
Like the former Swindon Town goalkeeper, Alnwick has made his name in the third tier of English football but, having honed his trade at Newcastle United, should be well placed to deal with the size and expectation of the Ibrox crowd.
