French outlet L’Equipe claim Mauricio Pochettino has been approached by La Liga club Athletic Bilbao with his future at Paris Saint-Germain in doubt. Pochettino has been linked with a potential return to Tottenham Hotspur.
Last month, Antonio Conte was strongly linked with a move to PSG and with Spurs now four points behind Arsenal in the race for the Champions League, doubts will arise over his future. They face Arsenal on Thursday.
Indeed, there have been reports suggesting that PSG and Spurs could swap managers. Conte to the French champions, and Pochettino back to the club where he clocked up 293 games in charge. Those reports have died off.
But the doubt surrounding Pochettino’s future has not and Bilbao have made an approach to land the Argentine. They currently sit in eighth place in La Liga and could qualify for Europe come the end of the campaign.
Bilbao eye Pochettino: Tottenham need to be working in background
It all depends on Conte. Does he stay if Spurs do not finish in fourth place, which is now looking unlikely? Arsenal only need a point to establish themselves as firm favourites, while Tottenham simply have to win.
Even if Spurs win, they are still a point behind with two games to play. But Spurs will be left behind in the race to get Pochettino if they wait for Conte. They need to sound their old gaffer out, and put plans in place for a return.
