According to L’Equipe, Houssem Aouar now wants a move to the Premier League, following years of interest from Arsenal.

What’s the story?

Well, the Gunners tried to sign the France international in 2020, making two bids which were both rejected by Lyon – the second offer was worth €38m (£32m) – according to Eurosport.

Arsenal again tried to sign Aouar in 2021, as le10sport believe yet another bid was made, although once again, the north Londoners were unsuccessful.

Now, Lyon seem to have shot themselves in the foot, as their No.8 is worth just €15m (£13m) as he enters the final 12 months of his contract.

After all this time, Arsenal are still interested in Aouar, and are said to be in pole position to sign the 24-year-old.

There is also more good news, as the Lyon maestro is keen to move to the Premier League.

In that respect, a deal should surely be straightforward for the Gunners to complete.

However, Arteta faces competition from José Mourinho, as Roma have held talks to sign Aouar.

Arsenal must sign Houssem Aouar

If Arsenal fail to complete a deal for Aouar this summer, we’re convinced it will never happen.

Arsenal are clearly trying to sign another midfielder, as Edu makes contact with Lucas Paqueta, while a deal for Youri Tielemans is still in the pipeline at the Emirates Stadium.

Therefore, why not sign a long-term target in Aouar for just £13m instead?

The playmaker is just 24, boasts strong experience having made 15 Champions League appearances, and he is surely a player who Arsenal have done their homework on, given the amount of time they’ve tracked him.

In our view, he would be ideal for the Gunners.

Be sure to keep an eye on Aouar’s situation, as we’ll be stunned if he doesn’t leave Lyon this summer.
