According to a report by Goal, Lisandro Martinez is an admirer of Mikel Arteta and the ideas that he has been implementing at Arsenal.
The Spaniard has struggled since becoming the Arsenal manager. He’s secured two eighth-place finishes followed up by a fifth-place finish last season, but, to give him credit, you can see what he is trying to build.
Indeed, the former Manchester City coach has instilled a unique philosophy at Arsenal. His style of play is entertaining, while his young core of players have been thrilling to watch, and if all goes to plan, they will only get better.
Results haven’t been brilliant, but it’s hard to not be impressed by what Arteta is trying to do at Arsenal, and one man who is reportedly a fan of the Spaniard’s vision is Martinez.
The Argentine has reportedly been impressed by Arteta’s ideas, and that certainly bodes well for Arsenal in their ongoing transfer tussle with Manchester United.
Indeed, according to numerous reports, Arsenal and United are both very keen on Martinez, while Fabrizio Romano claims that the Gunners think he would be the ‘perfect’ signing this summer.
The fact that he’s a fan of Arteta may well give Arsenal the edge, but unfortunately for the Gunners, the current manager at Old Trafford also knows Martinez well.
Erik Ten Hag was, of course, his manager at Ajax, and while the defender does like Arteta, he adores ten Hag, and, perhaps more importantly, he knows what he’s getting from the Dutchman.
This remains one of the most intriguing transfer races of this window and it will be very interesting to see which club can ultimately persuade Martinez to sign for them.
