Report: 'Perfect' 52-year-old manager makes next round in Spurs shortlist

Tottenham Hotspur have been linked with a host of managers over the past few weeks.

Julian Nagelsmann, Vincent Kompany and Luis Enrique are just some of the names doing the rounds.

Now, according to The Athletic, Enrique has made the cut in Spurs’ narrowed-down shortlist.

Charlie Eccleshare has published an in-depth piece about the ‘unrest’ at Tottenham.

Clocking in at around 5,600 words, there’s certainly a lot to talk about regarding what’s happening at Spurs.

The article noted how the challenge of finding the ‘next Pochettino’ has been made harder by Fabio Paratici’s suspension.

Daniel Levy is now in charge and, despite failing to make a breakthrough thus far, ‘they have now narrowed down their targets’.

Predictably, the article names Nagelsmann, with Enrique the only other coach who they publicly named.

With regards to Enrique, journalist Graeme Bailey recently said that Spurs have held talks with the 52-year-old.

Our view

With Tottenham still looking for a new permanent manager, Enrique certainly wouldn’t be a bad shout.

Enrique is an ‘unbelievable‘ manager who has worked wonders for Barcelona and Spain.

Pep Guardiola also said Enrique was ‘perfect’ for Barca.

With that in mind, you’d like to think he could be good for Spurs too.

Enrique also seems keen on a long-term project, and that’s definitely what Spurs are at present.

There’s a lot of work that needs doing at Tottenham in order to get them back to where they were under Pochettino.

At the same time, the Spurs decision-makers will likely be cautious about bringing in a serial-winning marquee manager.

Jose Mourinho and Antonio Conte were both in this category, and things didn’t work out.

Perhaps Tottenham could do with a young, hungry, up-and-coming manager whose CV isn’t trophy-laden just yet.

That way, the manager and Spurs could grow together, as was the case when Pochettino was at N17.
