Arsenal now reportedly face competition from Manchester City and Bayern Munich in the race to sign English talent Djed Spence, who is expected to be on the move this summer.

According to Sky Germany, Pep Guardiola’s side are now in the competition for the 21-year-old right-back, with a cluster of Premier League clubs also chasing Spence following a breakout year on-loan with Nottingham Forest this season.

The defender, who is owned by Middlesbrough, has exploded onto the scene in recent months with Spence impressing for Forest in both the Championship and the FA Cup, and his performances have now caught the eye of City ahead of the summer.

With a reported price tag of £15m according to the Athletic, Spence will be one of the most in-demand players in the coming months, with clubs such as Arsenal, Leeds United and Tottenham interested in the defender according to Sky Sports News.

And as per Sky Germany, City are now in the race for Spence, with Bayern also showing a strong interest in the young defender as Julian Nagelsmann’s side look to improve the right-back position in the squad.

With Middlesbrough setting a modest price tag for Spence, a bidding war could easily kick-off between clubs around England and Europe, and for Arsenal, they will be hopeful they can win the race for the Championship superstar.

Arsenal must beat City and Bayern to Spence signing this summer

Mikel Arteta and Edu Gaspar solved the right-back position for Arsenal in sensational style last summer in the form of Takehiro Tomiyasu, and this year, a backup option for the Japanese international is much-needed, with Spence the ideal candidate.

Hailed as ‘unbelievable’ by former Forest defender Brian Laws, the England youngster offers Arsenal a new option down the right flank, and with the Gunners likely to finish in Europe this season, Spence could become a solid and reliable backup pick for the north Londoners if they beat City and Bayern to his signature.
