Leeds United are now reportedly facing competition for Douglas Costa from a former Premier League manager, Manuel Pellegrini.
Leeds United’s interest
Earlier this month, Calciomercato reported interest from Leeds in signing Costa from Juventus in the summer of 2021.
The report in the Italian news outlet claimed that Leeds head coach Marcelo Bielsa loves the technical qualities of the Brazil international and would love to sign him for the Premier League club, adding that Juventus would be happy to sell the 30-year-old for €11 million (£9.48 million), as reported by HITC Sport.
One suspects that Leeds would be willing to pay €11 million (£9.48 million) for a 30-year-old with extensive experience in Germany and Italy and has played regularly in the Champions League.
Competition from Real Betis
However, the Premier League club are now reportedly facing competition for the Brazil international – on loan at Bayern Munich at the moment – from Real Betis.
Managed by former Manchester City and West Ham United manager Manuel Pellegrini, the Spanish club want to sign the Brazilian in the summer of 2021, but for that to happen, they need the winger to take a pay-cut, according to El Gol Digital.
Leeds United or Real Betis?
Leeds are unlikely to pay a huge amount of salary to any player after just one season in the Premier League, but they should be able to pay more than Betis.
The Premier League is the most watched domestic league in the world, and Costa could be tempted to a move to Elland Road.
However, Betis are in the running for the Europa League places in the La Liga table this season, and Costa may be swayed by that.
