A report by The Athletic has outlined how Mikel Arteta is now viewed by the higher-ups at Arsenal after his team’s poor run of form.

It’s no secret that Arsenal have been terrible in recent weeks, losing four consecutive home league games for the first time in over 60 years, and while their draw against Southampton on Wednesday evening ended that run, it still left them 15th in the Premier League table.

The Gunners are in all sorts of trouble at the moment, and as you can imagine, this has led to quite a lot of speculation about the future of Arteta at Arsenal.

However, an article written by David Ornstein and James McNicholas states that the club still have faith in him, viewing him more as a solution than a problem.

“The sense those familiar with the club’s executive team have is the young coach is regarded as a long-term appointment they remain utterly committed to. Despite being on a learning curve himself, Arteta is viewed internally as more of the solution than the problem,” The article states.

It’s never nice to hear someone in danger of losing their job, but there is certainly a debate to be had about whether or not the hierarchy are getting this right with Arteta.

The Spaniard has overseen the Gunners’ worst start to a season in almost 50 years, and he has them hovering just above the relegation zone after 13 games.

Ok, his players haven’t been performing at their very best, and there is an argument to say they have been unlucky with red cards and refereeing decisions, but there’s no doubt that they should be doing better than they are.

Of course, things can change very quickly in football, and the top brass at the Emirates are bound to know more about Arteta’s managerial acumen than we are, but as an outsider looking in, it seems as though he should be under a bit more pressure than he seemingly is.
