According to an exclusive report from Calciomercato, Edu already has a replacement for Mikel Arteta at Arsenal in mind.

The Italian news outlet state that Edu has identified Massimiliano Allegri as his top target to replace the Spaniard if things get worse at the Emirates Stadium.

Calciomercato also mention that the ex-Juventus boss has been ‘courted’ by the Gunners before, and has been contacted ahead of a potential appointment.

It is said in the report that Allegri has been offered the chance to step in mid-season and spend the current campaign getting to grips with the squad, before aiming for ‘prestigious positions’ next term.

If this news is true, it is disappointing from Arsenal.

It must be remembered that Arteta isn’t even halfway into his first full season in management. That alone should buy him plenty of time.

If not, then the fact that the ex-Manchester City coach won the FA Cup in his first half-season as manager should mean he’s earned the right to some patience.

Admittedly, things really aren’t going well right now as Arsenal languish 15th in the Premier League.

However, while signings aren’t the be all and end all, additions are definitely needed.

In terms of the market, Arteta has also earned the right to some patience in that respect too, as his captures of Thomas Partey and Gabriel Magalhães have been excellent signings.
