Fernando Marcal is set to leave Premier League outfit Wolverhampton Wanderers in the summer with Globo Esporte reporting that the defender has agreed a move to Botafogo.
A £1.7 million signing from Lyon in the summer of 2020, Marcal might not be the most high-profile signing of the Fosun International era but he’s certainly had his moments.
A reliable operator on the left-hand side, the 33-year-old veteran will be remembered fondly at Molineux for his enthusiasm and all-action approach on the flank.
But with Rayan Ait-Nouri going from strength to strength under Bruno Lage – and with Jonny Castro Otto back again after a long spell on the sidelines – it seems that Marcal’s time at Molineux is coming to an end.
And that is without mentioning Ryan Giles. The 22-year-old academy graduate has assisted ten goals in 29 games during loan spells at Cardiff City and Blackburn Rovers.
Is Marcal leaving Wolves?
Reports linking Marcal with a return to Brazil first emerged last week. According to Globo Esporte, an agreement has now been reached. Even if the former Gremio youngster has not yet signed a contract with the Serie B champions.

Marcal will arrive on a free-transfer, given that his Wolves contract is due to expire on July 1. A move to Botafogo will see the defender reunite with former Lyon team-mate and close friend Rafael da Silva.
According to Brazilian publication Lance, A Estrela Solitaria submitted a proposal for Marcal a couple of days ago. They have already entered discussions about the finances of a potential transfer.
Marcal has started 15 Premier League games this season, including three of the last five.
