Cardiff City manager Steve Morison expects Cody Drameh to go back to Premier League strugglers Leeds United when his loan spell at the Championship club comes to an end, speaking to Wales Online.

It’s no secret that Marcelo Bielsa wanted to keep the attack-minded right-back at Elland Road for the remainder of the season (Leeds Live). But, clearly, Drameh saw things differently.

The 20-year-old obviously felt his development would be better served playing regular first-team football, week-in, week-out, albeit in the division below.

And given how he’s performed so far in Cardiff colours – setting up two goals in 10 Championship games – Drameh will at least return to Elland Road with his reputation enhanced and his confidence sky-high.

Does Cody Drameh have a big future at Leeds United?

“Would we be able to get any of those players back next year? Probably not,” Morison admits when asked about the future of his Premier League loanees.

“But we might be able to get the next one in line, because they know what we’re doing.

“You can get a different quality of player (on loan) that you might not be able to get outright. Wages-wise, you’re able to get someone in who is that good. But it’s as a percentage rather than costing us a fortune.

“I think it’s been great. The size, quality and depth of these Premier League squads nowadays, it’s definitely a really good avenue for us.”

Cardiff have also landed Tommy Doyle on loan from Manchester City. Ryan Giles, meanwhile, shone during the first half of the season after arriving via Wolverhampton Wanderers.

He set up nine goals in 19 league starts.

And Morison believes that the success of Giles, Drameh and co bodes well for Cardiff as they scour the market for more low-risk, low-cost deals.

“All the conversations we’ve had with the (top-flight) clubs since have been really positive,” Morison adds.

“We will have gained trust from a lot of them. All the clubs have sent down individual representatives to see how we work behind the scenes.

“They have got a complete overview of it. Plus the performances from those players have been excellent as well.

“I have no doubt in my mind, if the season stopped tomorrow, they’ll be going back better players.”
