According to The Mirror, Norwich City are expecting to beat Leeds United to the signing Of Southampton goalkeeper Angus Gunn next week.

Gunn, 25, is the son of Canaries legend Bryan Gunn, and actually spent the 2017-18 season on loan at Norwich, where he excelled.

After losing his way at Southampton, Gunn is now expected to make a permanent return to Carrow Road in a £5million move.

Leeds’ hijack attempt and Orta’s long-term pursuit

Norwich have been linked with Gunn for weeks, but it’s stated that Leeds entered the race late in the day.

This isn’t a huge shock. Victor Orta has been chasing Gunn for years, and wanted him on loan from Manchester City in the summer of 2018, but missed out.

Leeds were again linked with Gunn last summer after winning promotion to the Premier League, and they appear to have had another go after his loan spell at Stoke City.

Gunn wouldn’t have been first-choice at Elland Road

Leeds ultimately already have a top young goalkeeper, with Illan Meslier starring in the Premier League last season.

Gunn would have most likely been sat on the bench at Leeds, and may feel he has a better chance of supplanting Tim Krul at Norwich.

Add in the emotional ties to Norwich, and a return to his hometown club makes total sense.
