According to The Times, Newcastle United will renew their interest in Sven Botman this summer, and the Magpies are more keen on Botman than they are on James Tarkowski.
Tarkowski and Botman are two of the most-discussed players ahead of this summer transfer window, for entirely different reasons.
Botman, who has been described as a ‘great young talent’, is being eyed up by Europe’s elite, including AC Milan, and he will be moving for a substantial transfer fee this summer.
Meanwhile, Tarkowski is tried and tested in the Premier League, and as he’s available on a free, many mid-table clubs are keen to take a punt on the England international.
Newcastle have been linked with both, but now, the Times claim that the Tyneside club are more keen on Botman than they are Tarkowski.
To be fair, we can understand why.

As talented as Tarkowski is, he’s not the type of defender who will take you to the top.
He’ll do a steady job and help any team stay in the Premier League, but with Newcastle likely harbouring European ambitions in the next two years, you have to feel they need someone with a bit more quality.
That’s where Botman comes in. The Dutchman has already proven he has what it takes to compete at the very top level, playing Champions League football and winning a Ligue 1 title with Lille, and at the age of just 22, he has so much room to grow and improve.
Botman may be the more expensive option, but when you’re as rich as Newcastle United, that doesn’t matter too much.
Don’t be too shocked if Newcastle end up landing Botman and Tarkowski ends up elsewhere.
