Speaking on BT Sport’s coverage of the Champions League Round of 16 draw, Owen Hargreaves has been discussing reported Newcastle target Sven Botman after Chelsea drew Lille.
Botman is apparently at the top of Newcastle’s wishlist in January, and while the relegation-threatened outfit are keen on the Dutchman, Hargreaves believes he’s set for a big move.
To be honest, we’re not surprised to hear Hargreaves say this. After all, Botman is a very talented young defender who led Lille to a Ligue 1 title last season.
What’s been said about Botman?
Hargreaves was impressed by some of Lille’s young players, including the centre-half.
“They’ve got some great young talent. Renato Sanches plays behind David. Sven Botman is a young centre-back who is probably going to get a big move as well,” Hargreaves said.

Coup for Newcastle
Hargreaves’ comments just go to show how much of a coup Botman would be for Newcastle.
The former Bayern Munich man believes the centre-half is going to get a big move, and if Newcastle can jump to the front of the queue, they will be getting a player who is more than capable of playing for a top club.
However, whether or not Newcastle get him is another matter.
As Hargreaves says, this is a player who should get a big move, and if the top clubs catch wind of his availability, Newcastle may not be able to compete. After all, money isn’t everything in football, even if it is a big factor.
