The Middlesbrough defender could be keen on a move to Newcastle United.
Middlesbrough defender Ben Gibson
Newcastle United have been monitoring Ben Gibson’s situation at Middlesbrough, The Telegraph reports.
It is claimed that Gibson is still set on leaving his boyhood club this summer, despite Garry Monk’s attempts to keep him at the Riverside.
Newcastle were linked with a move for the 24-year-old earlier this year, but only after bookmaker Bet Victor installed them as 8/1 outsiders to sign him this summer. And The Telegraph‘s report suggests the interest from Rafa Benitez’s side is now more concrete.
The Spaniard said to want to add to his centre-back options ahead of the Magpies’ return to the Premier League, although it is claimed he would prefer to sign an experienced partner for 23-year-old Jamaal Lascelles.

Nevertheless, Gibson would almost certainly improve Newcastle’s options, having impressed in his maiden top flight campaign for Boro, earning him England recognition.
And it is claimed that the Middlesbrough-born player, whose uncle, Steve, is the club’s chairman, could be tempted by a move to St James’ Park, which would ensure he would not have to relocate.

According to The Telegraph, a bid of approaching £20 million would be difficult to turn down, although it remains to be seen whether Newcastle would stretch to that amount.
