Newcastle have made a bid to sign Ferland Mendy from Real Madrid – a player Everton could have signed for just £4m.
What’s the story?
Well, the Magpies have made an offer for the France international – according to Foot Mercato.
The French news outlet believe Eddie Howe is keen to have Mendy with him on Tyneside as he aims to keep Newcastle in the Champions League qualification positions.
Foot Mercato believe Paris Saint-Germain are also interested in the £154,000-a-week man.
Mendy joined Real Madrid from Lyon back in 2019 in a £47m deal, where the 27-year-old was tasked with replacing the legendary Marcelo at the Santiago Bernabeu.

The Real Madrid No.23 has often come in for some criticism due to a lack of consistency, but Foot Mercato state that Carlo Ancelotti is largely happy with his performances in the Spanish capital.
So far this season, Mendy has made 17 appearances in all competitions, providing one assist while also picking up three yellow cards.
Everton could have signed Newcastle target for £4m
If Newcastle end up bringing Mendy to the Premier League and he thrives in England, Everton will regret their decision to ignore him even more.
Back in 2017, when the left-back was still playing for Le Havre in France, Everton expressed an interest in his services, with the French side willing to sell for just £4.3m – according to L’Equipe.
However, the Toffees never submitted a bid, and Mendy has since risen to the pinnacle of club football by joining Real Madrid, where he has won the Champions League and many other pieces of silverware.
As Everton find themselves languishing just one point above the Premier League relegation zone, they will kick themselves even more if Mendy joins the Champions League-chasing Magpies.
Keep an eye on this situation, as Real Madrid are yet to respond to Newcastle’s offer.
