Newcastle United reportedly still remain interested in signing Everton winger Anthony Gordon despite Chelsea preparing a £50m offer to sign the England youth international.
According to the Athletic, the 21-year-old winger is still on Newcastle’s radar, with the Magpies reportedly plotting a bid to sign Gordon earlier in the window. However, in the past few days, Chelsea have taken a resounding lead in the race for the attacker, with the Blues having a reported £43m offer rejected by Everton for the youngster.
As per the Athletic, the west London giants are now expected to launch a second bid for Gordon this week worth around £50m, a fee that Everton are set to accept given how much the offer is worth, and for Newcastle, they’re still believed to be in the hunt for the Kirkdale-born wonderkid.
Gordon has been one of Everton’s most important players in the past 12 months with the attacker one of the few shining lights from last season’s disastrous campaign under Rafa Benitez and Frank Lampard, with the English manager this year handing the prospect the no. 10 shirt and the role as the centre-forward due to injuries.
Indeed, Gordon is beloved by Everton supporters due to his strong links to the club and the fact he is a supporter-turned-superstar for his boyhood side, however, with Chelsea plotting a £50m bid and Newcastle still interested in signing the attacker, a sale now feels very likely in the coming days.
Whilst Newcastle do have the resources to match anything Chelsea are offering, Gordon himself would likely be keener to joining the Blues given their current stature and their status as a UEFA Champions League side, with the Toon not yet at that stage on their journey to becoming the next superclub in Europe.
Newcastle could launch ambitious bid to sign Chelsea-bound Gordon

Branded as ‘special’ by pundit Dean Ashton, it somewhat makes sense why Chelsea are willing to spend so much on Gordon, and for Newcastle, if they were truly set on also signing the Everton talent, they should submit a late but ambitious offer to bring the 21-year-old to St. James Park.
After all, Newcastle need an attacker this summer, and with Gordon at the right age and seemingly available at the right price, the Magpies could make a surprise bid to sign the winger right from Chelsea’s noses in a move that could be one of the most shocking in the entire window.
