The i claim Newcastle United are considering a third offer to sign Leicester City and England playmaker James Maddison – after having two previous bids rejected in the last couple of weeks.
Maddison, 25, had a barn-storming season last term, clocking up 30 goal involvements in 53 appearances. However, he has entered the final two years of his contract and Leicester are struggling financially.
It has already seen Kasper Schmeichel leave the club to join Nice. Wesley Fofana is being linked with a huge move to Chelsea. Leicester are in a position where they need to spend, but do not have the cash to do so.

Maddison could be another casualty. But Leicester are sticking to their £60million valuation. Newcastle have made two offers, both of which have been turned down. Now, the i claims they could return with a third offer.
Newcastle considering third Maddison offer
Leicester are well within their rights to request a fee of £60million for Maddison. He is still only 25, he is English and he is a player that is bang in form. Arguably, one of England’s most in-form playmakers last season.
He is easily worth the cash. While Newcastle have the money, Financial Fairplay will be on their mind and they are desperate not to spend over the odds. A £10million deal for goalkeeper Nick Pope is a prime example of that.
So, while “phenomenal” Maddison would be a stunning signing for the Toon, both clubs are right to request what they want – but not overspend. Can a compromise be found? Perhaps, add-ons will be crucial in a deal.
Reports also suggest that Newcastle could include Martin Dubravka in a deal. Leicester need a goalkeeper and Pope is now first choice on Tyneside. Maybe, a fee between £45million and £50million, and Dubravka could tempt.
