Newcastle United want James Maddison and are considering a part-exchange offer that could involve goalkeeper Martin Dubravka.
The Magpies are chasing attacking additions before the transfer deadline and have been focused on wingers and strikers of late.
Yet amid links to Lyon star Lucas Paqueta, Newcastle may also fancy signing a playmaker to create more in the final third.
Paqueta joining forces with Bruno Guimaraes again would have been exciting, but Newcastle are seemingly eyeing up Maddison instead.
Newcastle United want James Maddison
Newcastle made their interest in Maddison known over the weekend, offering £40million for the Leicester City star.
Leicester rejected that offer and have now done the same with Newcastle making a second bid.
Leicester want £60million for Maddison and Newcastle have so far come nowhere near meeting that asking price.
The Daily Mail now claim that Newcastle could now explore a player exchange in order to tempt Leicester into a deal.
The main name mentioned is goalkeeper Martin Dubravka, with Leicester interested in signing the Slovakian.
Leicester are losing long-standing number one Kasper Schmeichel with the Dane set for a move to French side Nice.

Brendan Rodgers may now chase a replacement and Dubravka is thought to be on Leicester’s wish list.
Dubravka is likely to start the new season as Newcastle’s second-choice stopper following the signing of Nick Pope from Burnley.
That isn’t exactly the ideal situation for Dubravka, and the 33-year-old may be interested in leaving St James’ Park this summer.
Leicester would likely be able to offer playing time that Newcastle can’t promise, but would Dubravka really help Newcastle land Maddison?
Dubravka cost Newcastle £4million back in 2018 and isn’t likely to be worth that much more now, even with three years left on his contract.
Even with Dubravka included, Newcastle may still need to offer around £55million – and that just doesn’t seem all that likely as things stand.
