According to Alan Nixon, writing on his Patreon, Newcastle are now ready to spend big on Anthony Gordon.
The journalist claims that the Magpies are ready to offer £40m for the Everton winger, and the Toffees are receptive to bids.
However, the Merseyside club want to have replacements through the door before letting Gordon go, and that could see this deal drag on.
Indeed, Everton are not willing to take any risks in their current position, and they want players through the door before selling Gordon to Newcastle or any other club.
Of course, that throws a spanner into the works for the Magpies. After all, new signings at Everton are rather complicated at the moment due to the fact they’re currently managerless.
There is chat about the likes of Arnaut Danjuma and Iliman Ndiaye arriving at Goodison, but signing two new attackers while you don’t have a manager on board is a very risky strategy.

However, if there’s any club in England that are likely to make such a bone-headed decision in the transfer market, it’s Everton.
These deals could very well be done without a new manager in the dugout, and that could lead to disaster for the Blues.
However, Everton’s loss could well be Newcastle’s gain as they line up a deal for Gordon.
The ‘phenomenal’ youngster is a player with huge potential, and his workrate would suit Eddie Howe’s side to a tee.
£40m is a massive amount of money for a club with Everton’s financial problems, and they would be wise to accept such an offer if it does arrive from Newcastle.
With the Toffees wanting replacements through the door first, this could take some time to finalise, but it sounds as though Gordon could be a Newcastle player by the transfer deadline.
