Danny Murphy thinks Tottenham Hotspur and Chelsea transfer target, Anthony Gordon, would benefit from staying at Everton this summer, as he told talkSPORT.
The summer transfer window slams shut on Thursday, as Frank Lampard, Thomas Tuchel and Antonio Conte are expected to still be doing business right until the cut-off point.
One of the main talking points of deadline day is expected to be Gordon’s future and whether he will head for the Everton exit door.

Everton have secured two points on the road from their last two matches – 1-1 draws at Brentford and Leeds – and Gordon has scored both goals.
There have been previous reports that Chelsea are confident of sealing a £60 million transfer for the player, but the hours are ticking ahead of that deadline, then Tottenham are also trying to hijack a deal for the player.
Either way, Murphy explained what he likes about Gordon as a player and why he should stay put on Merseyside.
“I completely understand the interest,” said Murphy. “I think he’s a brilliant prospect. He’s got a lovely balance. Two good feet. Very courageous on the ball. He goes hunting the ball down to make things happen. That’s a real trait in a young player, especially in an Everton side last season struggling and the pressure in the home games.
“He was the one. Getting on the ball. Trying to make things happen. His tenacity without the ball is something you don’t need to work on. It’s there. It’s in him. It’s in his heart. And that’s a phenomenal mix.
“He’ll have an impact. But he might not be playing every week. Chelsea are looking at 5, 6 or seven years of a player like that. You are building for the future.
“Would you have Gordon ahead of Pulisic? Yes. Probably ahead of Ziyech, even though he is a talent, but he hasn’t got the fire in the belly that Gordon has. Then you have Sterling, Mount and Havertz. He wouldn’t oust them. But they play in four competitions.
“For the lad, and this is a contradiction, he would benefit by playing another year at Everton because he’s going to play every game, he’s already super-confident and the fans love him.”

GORDON’S STOCK IS RISING
Despite talk about his future, Gordon has put his head down, grafted and done his talking on the field of play for Everton.
There are some who can throw their toys out of the pram, but regardless of what happens, Gordon’s stock is rising.
The Toffees are still searching for their first win of the new Premier League season five games in, and in truth, they need Gordon on board if they want to finish as high as possible this term.
Plus, with the 2022 World Cup around the corner, if Gordon wants to be a surprise inclusion, then he needs to be playing on a regular basis to earn that call, not warming the bench.
