According to the Daily Mail, Newcastle are now interested in signing Torino defender Gleison Bremer, who is also wanted by Tottenham and Liverpool.

What’s the story?

Well, the Daily Mail believe Newcastle are closing in on Chris Wood, although the Magpies are also thinking about defensive reinforcements.

One name mentioned to the Daily Mail within the last few days is Bremer, who Torino value at £15m.

Newcastle’s interest comes after Radio Itatiaia claimed Liverpool had made contact with the Serie A side over a move for the 24-year-old.

Elsewhere, Torino Granata believe Tottenham are leading the race for the Brazilian – clearly, he’s an admired player in the Premier League.

Sadly, the Daily Mail do not elaborate on their claim, so all we know is that Bremer is on Eddie Howe’s radar.

What could Gleison Bremer bring to Newcastle, Tottenham or Liverpool?

If Newcastle can wrap this deal up, it would be a tremendous signing.

Bremer is very highly rated in Italy – Tuttosport even described the South American as ‘one of the best’ in Serie A.

In a division boasting the likes of Giorgio Chiellini, Kalidou Koulibaly, Matthijs de Ligt and others, that is very high praise indeed.

As things stand, Howe doesn’t really have a standout centre-back.

A towering figure to compete with Jamaal Lascelles, Federico Fernandez, Ciaran Clark and Fabian Schar certainly wouldn’t go amiss.

Keep an eye on this saga – if Newcastle beat Spurs and Liverpool to Bremer’s services, it would certainly be a statement.
