Newcastle United are going to attempt to outbid Tottenham Hotspur in the race to sign Jesse Lingard, the Northern Echo report.
Jesse Lingard to Newcastle?
Tottenham and West Ham are both keen to land Lingard ahead of the January transfer window, according to the latest update, but Newcastle are hoping that their financial power can win them the race.
It is claimed that Newcastle want to outbid both London clubs in the race for the England international attacking midfielder.
If Newcastle could land Lingard in January, he certainly would add quality to their squad.
Manchester United would also surely be receptive to offers, given that he has just months remaining on his contract.
If the Red Devils keep him around then they risk losing him for free.
Issue for Newcastle?

The problem for Newcastle is that they may well be the least appealing of the three clubs to join at this current stage, on paper, at least.
Newcastle may be able to offer more money than both Tottenham and West Ham for the midfielder, who Rio Ferdinand has previously labelled ‘amazing’.
However, that may not be enough to convince him to join them while they are embroiled in a relegation battle.
Newcastle are currently well adrift of safety and any player that comes to them in January must realise that going down to the Championship is a real risk.
Lingard may not want to take that gamble, given his standing in the game.
But his energy and enthusiasm could be vital for Eddie Howe, if he was happy to move to St. James’ Park.
