Newcastle United are now expecting to secure the signature of Santos Laguna youngster Santiago Munoz by the end of the week.
That’s according to the Daily Mail, who claim that the deal is expected to be completed in advance of the transfer deadline next Tuesday.
Rumours of a move for Munoz first emerged from ESPN in Mexico earlier this month, as they claimed that the teenager was one step away from signing for Newcastle.
Fans thought this may have been a prank; Newcastle famously signed Mexican ace Santiago Munez in the Goal! film series, and supports thought this was just a joke.
It seems very real though, with Munoz preparing for his move to Tyneside… except he won’t have a Gavin Harris to contend with at St James’ Park.
Munoz, 19, has only played 19 times for Santos Laguna’s first team, picking up three goals and three assists whilst mostly playing as a centre forward.

A move to Newcastle now seems very close, as Cruz Azul boss Juan Reynoso – who is coaching the Liga MX All-Stars against the MLS All-Stars – has confirmed that Munoz has left training and will not be in the squad for the game.
Munoz is one for the future at Newcastle, but he will have a real chance of becoming a star at St James’ Park – just as Munez did in the film way back in 2005.
Steve Bruce needs first-team additions before the deadline too, but this looks like an encouraging move for the future on Tyneside.
