According to CalcioMercato, Newcastle United have made a fresh approach in their attempts to sign Sven Botman from Lille.
The Magpies have been linked with Botman for months at this point. They tried with all their might to sign him in January, but in the end, their efforts were to no avail as Lille stood firm.
The player himself is open to a move to St James’ Park. Amanda Staveley has confirmed as much during an interview with The Athletic, and now, he could finally be making the switch.
Indeed, according to this report, Newcastle have made a fresh move for Botman, and they’re offering Lille more money than AC Milan and offering Botman a better financial package than the Serie A champions.
Of course, there’s every chance that Milan match this offer, and if they do, Botman will have a big decision to make.
Milan are, with all due respect, a much bigger club than Newcastle, but as the past decade has shown, their fortunes can change in an instant.
Meanwhile, the Magpies are now the richest club on the planet, and while they’re not competing at the top level right now, they only seem to be headed in one direction – up.
Newcastle thought they were out of the race to sign Botman as a move to Milan looked to be on the verge of completion, but now, the Magpies have a real chance of signing the Dutch ‘golden boy’ this summer.
This is certainly a situation to keep an eye on, especially as Aston Villa have also been linked with a move for the Ligue 1 star.
