Newcastle United have been joined by a host of European clubs in the race to sign Bayern Munich talent Joshua Zirkzee, with R.S.C. Anderlecht, Club Brugge and PSV Eindhoven all now interested in the 21-year-old striker.

Voetbal International have reported that the trio are all keen on signing the Dutch youth international this summer, with Bayern open to selling Zirkzee with the forward not a part of Julian Naglesmann’s long-term plans for the reigning Bundesliga champions despite an outstanding year out on loan last season.

Zirkzee was one of Anderlecht’s players of the year last campaign as the Schiedam-born striker bagged an incredible 18 goals and 13 assists in all competitions for the Belgian giants, and as a result, the Jupiler League titans, as well as rivals Brugge and PSV, have joined Newcastle in the race to sign the forward.

Reportedly valued at just £10m, Zirkzee could be a fantastic bargain this summer given his incredible record last season, and for Newcastle, they could face some strong competition now to sign the Bayern wonderkid, who he himself is eager to play regular football for the new campaign.

Indeed, after such a productive year in Brussels with Anderlecht, it makes sense why Zirkzee is keen on a move to a side where he will play regular football, and for Newcastle, they have to ensure they win the race to sign the Dutch youngster, who could be perfect for Eddie Howe’s long-term plan for the Toon.

With Callum Wilson seemingly out injured multiple times a season, a quality replacement is ideal for Newcastle, and a 21-year-old striker like Zirkzee is ideal for what Howe wants this summer as well as a great move for the club’s future prospects, but interest from a strong European trio could complicate matters.

Zirkzee has often been noted as one of Bayern’s most exciting talents in recent years, and this summer is shaping up to be one where the striker leaves the Bavarian giants for regular football elsewhere in Europe, yet for Newcastle, interest from Anderlecht, Club Brugge and PSV could cause problems.

After all, the trio are all competing in Europe this season, and for Zirkzee, this could be an incredibly appealing proposition despite the project Newcastle have on offer, with the striker likely to make a big decision on his future in the final weeks of the transfer window.
