According to the Daily Mail, Newcastle United are now advancing their move for Celtic defender Kristoffer Ajer.

The Magpies finished their season with a 2-0 win at Fulham, meaning they f inished up in 12th place – 17 points clear of the drop.

Steve Bruce will now want his squad to be strengthened this summer after a strong end to the campaign, and Ajer is a prime target.

It’s suggested that with the season over, Newcastle are advancing their move for Ajer in the hope of getting him signed up.

Newcastle’s move would be worth around £8million, seemingly hoping to get him on the cheap given that he is inside the final year of his contract.

Celtic would hate to lose Ajer, but he may well walk away for nothing in 2022, and this could be their last chance to land a reasonable fee.

Neil Lennon branded Ajer ‘excellent’, highlighting his ability to play at right back as well as centre back – something that should appeal to Steve Bruce.

The Scottish Daily Mail claimed in April that Ajer wants a move to Newcastle, and it’s very wise of the Magpies to now start advancing their move with the season over and the transfer window on the horizon; get the deal done early and you don’t miss out, which is something that Newcastle haven’t always adhered to.
