According to The Scottish Daily Mail (29/04, back page), Celtic defender Kristoffer Ajer thinks a move to Newcastle United could be ideal for him.
It’s claimed that Newcastle are pressing ahead with their attempts to sign Ajer at the end of the season, and the defender is ‘determined’ to leave the club.
The Magpies will allegedly offer £8million, some way short of the £25million Celtic want, but they surely won’t get that with Ajer only having one year left on his contract.
Norwich City and AC Milan are also interested, but it’s suggested that Ajer believes the regular football at Newcastle is the ideal step for him moving forward.
The Norwegian doesn’t want to be sat around as a squad player after being a key man at Celtic in recent years, and feels that he can play regularly with Newcastle.
Steve Bruce has a limited budget, so has to hope that Celtic will settle for a deal close to their £8million offer, rather than demanding a pretty exorbitant £25million.

The 23-year-old has racked up nearly 200 appearances for Celtic, and has shown his quality as a giant defender at 6ft 6in with pace and quality on the ball.
Ajer was branded ‘outstanding’ by Neil Lennon and ‘different class’ by Leigh Griffiths in 2019, with comparisons made to Virgil van Dijk – and Newcastle fans have to be excited about such a move.
