TuttoSport claim Newcastle and West Ham target Andrea Belotti has spoken to his Torino teammates on the phone to inform them that he is leaving the Serie A side on a free transfer in the next couple of weeks.

Belotti, 28, has been a sensation for Torino since joining the club seven years ago. The 44-time Italy star has scored 113 goals in 251 games and laid on 28 assists. He has been captain since the beginning of 2017-18.

But now, it seems that Belotti is set to leave. In his seven years at the club, 2021-22 was the first in which he has failed to score double digits in Serie A. Numerous injuries limited him to just 22 outings, still scoring eight times.

Reports this window claim that Newcastle and West Ham are among the clubs looking at Belotti. Now, TuttoSport claim he has informed his teammates on the phone that he is leaving – with his contract ending on June 30.

What a wonderful signing, Belotti could turn out to be. Still only 28, about to enter the prime of his career as a striker. A player that scores at a ratio of almost one every two, for a mid-table Torino side.

Belotti is considered one of the best strikers in Europe yet to join one of the elite. Surely, there will be bigger, more-established clubs that Newcastle and West Ham. But if they can sign him, what a coup.

On a free, too. The chances are he will remain in Italy and join a big club like Inter Milan, Juventus or Roma. But if Newcastle or West Ham, or another, could lure him to England, it would be sensational business.

Not least, according to ex-Hammers goalkeeper Joe Hart – who played alongside Belotti with Torino during a loan. He said he is as good as Harry Kane: “Andrea is similar to all the great strikers, English or not.”
