Mundo Deportivo claim Newcastle and Chelsea are willing to pay an enormous £78million to activate the release clause in Sevilla’s contract for Jules Kounde this summer. He wants to join Barcelona.
But the 23-year-old might not get his wish. Barcelona are struggling financially and if clubs are willing to pay Sevilla his full release clause, then surely Barcelona have little chance of winning the race for the Frenchman.

Chelsea have long been linked with the French defender, who has clocked up 133 appearances for Sevilla since joining the La Liga club from Bordeaux in 2019. Newcastle, meanwhile, have the cash necessary to sign him.
The Toon continue to be linked with the likes of Sven Botman and others – but they could decide to go really big, according to MD. Indeed, both Chelsea and Newcastle are willing to pay £78million for Kounde.
Newcastle and Chelsea willing to pay Kounde clause
Kounde would be a stunning signing for any Premier League club. It surely rules a move to Newcastle out of the question – even though Newcastle might be one of a handful of clubs able to afford him.
Newcastle have no European football on offer, let alone Champions League football. Chelsea, meanwhile, have the luxury of London, Champions League football, genuine silverware credentials – and he will start.
Chelsea have waved goodbye to a whole host of defenders including Andreas Christensen and Antonio Rudiger – meaning a centre-back is crucial. Kounde can also cover the loss of Cesar Azpilicueta at right-back.
