There was a bit of Tottenham Hotspur-related surprise on Thursday.
Calciomercato in Italy reported that Tottenham and Valencia had agreed a deal which would see Tanguy Ndombele move to Spain for the second half of the campaign on loan.
Considering that Paris Saint-Germain had seemed his most likely destination for much of January, to hear that he was apparently bound for the Spanish outfit instead was, as mentioned, something of a shock.
However, that transfer is now not happening.
The same publication – Calciomercato – has updated their information, claiming that although Valencia and the Lilywhites did indeed agree on the deal, the 25-year-old Frenchman has rejected the loan.
The report adds that Ndombele to PSG is firmly back on and that the agreement is 90 percent complete.
Ndombele, who cost Tottenham a club-record figure of £63 million in 2019, is thought to believe that he’ll be a first-team regular in the French capital under Mauricio Pochettino.
Remember, it was Pochettino who signed the former Lyon midfielder for the North Londoners in the first place, so you can understand the player’s desire to team up once again.
Good move?
Well, it’ll be a brilliant move for Ndombele so long as he’s motivated.
Ndombele is as talented as any player in the Tottenham squad right now.
However, he falls majorly short when it comes to attitude.
It’s no coincidence that Tottenham’s last three managers – Antonio Conte, Nuno Espirito Santo and Jose Mourinho – have stopped using him at various points throughout his career at Hotspur Way.
Hell, even Pochettino might’ve struggled to continue with him had he not been fired within a few months of the Frenchman’s first season in the Premier League.
The truth is, Ndombele is his own worst enemy and if he can reconcile that part of himself, well PSG are getting a sublime footballer.
