A study by the Athletic has shown that Jose Mourinho’s worst result as a manager in the past decade came during his time at Tottenham.

Spurs’ humiliating 3-0 loss to Dinamo Zagreb in last season’s UEFA Europa League was the Portuguese coach’s worst defeat in the last ten years according to ClubElo.

ClubElo is a measuring tool that quantifies the quality of teams based on results and taking into account goal difference, home advantage and European competitions.

And according to their findings, Zagreb’s 3-0 win against Tottenham was the worst Mourinho has endured in recent years.

Indeed, it is not too surprising that this was the game that was ranked as Mourinho’s worst. After all, the result was one of the most embarrassing Spurs had suffered over the past few seasons.

Tottenham went to Croatia with a 2-0 goal lead on aggregate. However, a Mislav Orsic masterclass dumped the north London side out of Europe in extra time.

Tottenham will always have a place in Mourinho’s heart as the only club the Portuguese manager never won silverware at.

The former Chelsea boss took Tottenham to the League Cup final, but he was sacked the week of the game, in which Manchester City won 1-0.

With Mourinho winning his 1000th game as manager this weekend for new side AS Roma, it will be interesting to see if the former Spurs boss can lead the Serie A club to success after a disappointing 18 months with Tottenham.
