According to The Telegraph, Mikel Arteta is pushing for Arsenal to make a £25m bid for Youri Tielemans.
The midfielder has been linked with Arsenal for a number of months now, with some reports even claiming that his representatives have been to London Colney to speak about a move.
However, Arteta is now keen for the Gunners to firm-up their interest in the Leicester City star, but, as ever, things aren’t always that straightforward.
Indeed, while Arteta is keen for Arsenal to bid £25m for the Belgian, they’re not the only English club in this race.
Manchester United have been strongly linked, as have Tottenham Hotspur, and with Spurs securing Champions League football over the weekend, there is an argument to make that a move to the white half of north London could be more alluring.
However, Tielemans may be more excited by the project being built at Arsenal. He’d fit into the young, exciting core that the Gunners are currently building, and while Arsenal fell short this season, their long-term prospects are promising.
Tielemans would certainly bring a lot to this Arsenal midfield. He’s been instrumental in making sure Leicester have been a constant presence in the Premier League top-half in recent years, and he’s even been described as ‘incredible’ in recent weeks.
Signing Tielemans after Arteta has personally pushed for this signing would certainly be a showing of faith from Edu and the Arsenal board, but if the midfielder ends up at Spurs, there’s no doubt that the Gunners boss will be very frustrated.
Tielemans is definitely leaving Leicester this summer according to Fabrizio Romano, but it remains to be seen where he’ll end up.
