Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has reportedly told Emile Smith Rowe that he wants him to stay.

Journalist Charles Watts has told TEAMtalk that Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has directly told Emile Smith Rowe that he wants him to stay at the Gunners.

Watts has reported that Arsenal want to give Smith Rowe a chance next season and see how he does.

There has been speculation that West Ham United wanted to sign the £57,000-a-week (SalarySport) youngster from Arsenal as part of a deal taking Declan Rice to the Gunners.

Aston Villa have also been linked with the 22-year-old, who can operate as an attacking midfielder or as a winger and was described as “an incredible player” by Arteta in The Athletic in January 2023.

Mikel Arteta wants Emile Smith Rowe to stay at Arsenal

Watts said about Smith Rowe: “He’s certainly not on the Arsenal scrapheap. Mikel Arteta has told him that he wants him to stay.

“I think going into the summer, I thought there was a good chance he could probably go… But by all accounts they want him to stay and are going to give him an opportunity, which I’m really happy with.”

What should Smith Rowe do?

In our opinion, Emile Smith Rowe should stay at Arsenal and not leave the Gunners in the summer transfer window.

Yes, the 22-year-old is going to find it hard to get into the team.

After all, Arsenal did well last season despite Smith Rowe starting none of the Premier League matches he featured in.

And the Gunners have signed Germany international attacking player Kai Havertz from Chelsea in the summer transfer window.

However, we know how good Smith Rowe is.

The 22-year-old England international was superb for Arsenal before his injury problems.

Smith Rowe has fully recovered now, and perhaps in pre-season training, he will be able to show Arteta what he can bring to the team.
