According to Deporte Valenciano, Maxi Gomez is one of three players who may have to leave Valencia amid links to Everton.

It’s claimed that Valencia need to sell, and two of Jasper Cillessen, Goncalo Guedes and Gomez will need to be sold to raise funds.

Valencia have a €31million deficit in their budget, hence the need to sell more than one key player this summer.

Nuno’s interest in Everton swoop

AS reported last week that Nuno Espirito Santo wants to sign Gomez in his next job having previously fancied him at Wolves.

Everton or Crystal Palace were named as the destinations for the duo to join forces, and with Palace out of the running, it looks like Everton will secure Nuno.

Gomez has a €140million (£120million) release clause in his deal, but Everton can expect to sign him for a fraction of that fee due to Valencia’s financial issues.

Who is potential Everton signing Maxi Gomez?

Gomez, 24, is a big and burly striker who emerged at Defensor Sporting in his native Uruguay before impressing at Celta Vigo with 31 goals and 10 assists in 75 games.

Valencia swooped to sign him in 2019, but his record there hasn’t been quite as impressive; just 17 goals and nine assists in 74 appearances.

Gomez has 19 caps for Uruguay, and shares an agent with the likes of Jordan Pickford, Gylfi Sigurdsson and Jonjoe Kenny, meaning Everton have links to Gomez’s representation.
