According to Mexican outlet, Soy Chiva Hermano, Marcelo Bielsa has been approached by C.D Guadalajara about becoming the Liga MX club’s next manager.
Bielsa is currently out of work after being sacked by Leeds United, but there have been many rumours about a return to work for the Argentine.
Indeed, Bielsa has been linked with a number of national team jobs such as Bolivia and Colombia, but he could now return to club management in Mexico for the first time in 26 years.
Bielsa is no stranger to Mexican football, he’s managed both Club America and Atlas in the mid-1990s, and now, 26 years on, he could head back to Liga MX to finish what he started.
A return to Mexico could suit Bielsa at this point of his career. He would be moving to a Spanish-speaking country where he’d probably be more comfortable, and while it’s still a long way away, he’d be closer to his family in Argentina.
Interestingly, C.D Guadalajara do have some links to the current Leeds United manager Jesse Marsch.
Indeed, Marsch played for Guadalajara’s former subsidiary club Chivas USA from 2006 to 2009, where he worked under Bob Bradley.
Chivas and Guadalajara were two incredibly intertwined clubs with the MLS team and the Liga MX outfit even sharing the same kits, badge and branding.
Marsch may have taken over from Bielsa at Leeds, but now, the Argentine could be headed to a club that Marsch himself has some strong links to.
Who knows? Perhaps this unique relationship could see Leeds and Guadalajara face-off in a pre-season friendly a few years down the line.
