According to Coluna do Fla, Manchester United are willing to spend £32m to sign Joao Gomes, although he would prefer a move to Liverpool.
What’s the story?
Well, those on Merseyside will take great pleasure in reading this story, we presume.
The Brazilian news outlet believe Manchester United have scouted the 21-year-old on numerous occasions, but the man himself has now said he would love to join Jürgen Klopp at Liverpool.
In fact, Gomes has revealed he holds the “greatest desire” to join the Reds.
As quoted by ESPN Brasil, the South American wonderkid said: “Liverpool are a team I’d play for. I have the greatest desire to play. Playing in the Champions League is my biggest dream and that of my family, my biggest dream in football.”
Now, this will interest Liverpool fans, especially as Gomes is a central midfielder.
Klopp is currently light on options after losing Thiago to a serious hamstring injury, which has supposedly forced the German into making a move for Sporting Lisbon maestro Matheus Nunes.
However, if a move for the Portugal international falls through, then it would be worth exploring the come-and-get-me plea from Gomes.
Liverpool could embarrass Manchester United
In our view, it would be pretty embarrassing for Manchester United to spend a long period of time scouting Gomes, only for him to join Liverpool.
In truth, his comments have already done damage, if he does eventually make the move to Old Trafford – football fans have long memories, and they will surely remember his desire to play for their bitter rivals.

In our view, Gomes is not what Liverpool need at the moment, although they should bear his comments in mind in case he continues to make fine progress in Brazil.
With a lack of options in midfield, Klopp needs a ready-made player, instead of a rough diamond such as Gomes who will need to be polished by easing him into life in the Premier League.
Whatever happens, it is good for Liverpool to have one of South America’s brightest talents be so open about his desire to join them – who know what other future stars feel the same way.
