According to Jeunes Footeux in France, Manchester United and Chelsea have now joined the race to sign Liverpool target Jhon Duran.

Liverpool face Manchester United & Chelsea competition

Well, it was Colombian journalist Pipe Sierra – the man who first broke the news of Luis Diaz coming to Anfield – who revealed that Liverpool have been scouting the Colombia international.

Now, Jürgen Klopp must fend off Erik ten Hag and Graham Potter if he is to sign Duran.

Jeunes Footeux believe a number of top European clubs have sat up and taken notice of the 18-year-old, with Atlético Madrid and Marseille also interested.

The French news outlet add that he will cost €11m (£9m).

Duran has put his name up in lights with some excellent performances for Chicago Fire, scoring eight goals while also providing six assists in 30 appearances this season.

The teenager has earned two caps for Colombia as a result of his efforts, and could also get himself a move to one of Europe’s elite clubs given the volume of interest in his talents.

Liverpool in good position to fend off Manchester United & Chelsea

In our view, Liverpool are in the driving seat in this particular transfer saga.

The aforementioned Sierra believes Liverpool have sent the same scout who watched Diaz to cast an eye over Duran, and the chance to join Colombia’s best player at Anfield may be too tempting to refuse for the teenager.

The Chicago Fire No.26 should also be attracted by Klopp’s tendency to use young players.

On Merseyside, the German has given plenty of playing time to the likes of Harvey Elliott and Fabio Carvalho despite their lack of Premier League experience, while he has also developed gems such as Mario Gotze in the past.

Therefore, if Liverpool firm up their interest with a bid in January, we believe the offer has a good chance of being successful.
