Linked with Tottenham Hotspur earlier this month, Paulo Fonseca could reportedly be on his way to Lyon and compete with Mauricio Pochettino for the Ligue 1 title.
Earlier this month, well-known and well-respected journalist Ian McGarry claimed on the Transfer Window Podcast that Fonseca has been offered to Tottenham (and Celtic).
The 48-year-old will leave his current managerial role at AS Roma and will be replaced by Jose Mourinho, who was sacked as the Tottenham head coach only last month.
ESPN has reported this morning that Fonseca is the first-choice manager to replace Rudi Garcia at Lyon.
Lyon have been challenging Mauricio Pochettino’s Paris Saint-Germain for the Ligue 1 title for much of the season, but they have just fallen short.
Given how tight the top end of the league table is in France, there is a chance that Lyon could miss out on a Champions League place.

However, Lyon will be determined to go again next season, and it seems that the French club believe that Fonseca is the guy to lead the charge.
There is no indication yet that Tottenham actually want to appoint Fonseca.
However, if Spurs want to at least explore the option of bringing in the Portuguese boss to Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, then they need to move fast.
Lyon are unlikely to wait too long to make a decision, and Fonseca will become a ‘free agent’ soon.
