Speaking on the Transfer Window Podcast, Ian McGarry has claimed that Paulo Fonseca has been offered to both Tottenham and Celtic.
Spurs and Celtic both of course need new managers after Neil Lennon and Jose Mourinho were sacked, and with Fonseca soon to be out of a job, he’s being offered around.
“Interestingly, with Roma parting with their current coach Paulo Fonseca, who is obviously a Portuguese legend, he has been offered to both Celtic and Tottenham Hotspur as a replacement for either Neil Lennon or Jose Mourinho,” McGarry said.
McGarry then asked his co-host, Duncan Castles, to give his view on this situation, to which he replied:
“Look, I think the difference in the two clubs he’s being offered to there, it underlines that he’s having to chase a new job. I’d be surprised if Tottenham were to take him as manager.
“Fonseca has had a decent career as a coach, he was very successful at Shakhtar Donetsk, he produced some great results in the Champions League with them and caused Pep Guardiola problems, at Roma it’s been tough for him, he’s gone through two sets of owners, American owners one of whom decided he was going to pull the plug on his investment halfway through that period,” Castles said.

As Castles says, it’s hard to imagine Spurs appointing Fonseca.
Firstly, he’s not got the CV to be considered a serious candidate for the role, and it would be quite a bad look to appoint the man who has just been replaced by Mourinho.
Celtic, on the other hand, could do a lot worse than appointing Fonseca, who is a very tactically astute manager.
As Castles says, this is a gaffer who has caused Pep Guardiola problems in the past, and you don’t do that unless you’ve got a fair bit of tactical nous.
