Erik ten Hag is actually hesitant to take the Tottenham Hotspur job, the Daily Mail suggest.

Ten Hag remains in contention to land the Spurs managerial vacancy, although Paulo Fonseca has now emerged as the favourite.

Tottenham have held talks with the Portuguese boss in recent days, with all the signs suggesting that he will take over the North London side.

However, Ten Hag remains on Tottenham’s wishlist and is a long-term target.

The Mail suggest that he should not be ruled out at this stage, after meeting with the club last month (Fabrizio Romano).

But Ten Hag is actually said to be more inclined to stay at Ajax rather than take the Tottenham job, where he has Champions League football on offer.

That means that even if Tottenham did make an approach for the Dutch manager they may be disappointed.

Disappointing news

Ten Hag’s reasoning behind this is not clear, but the Mail speculate it may be due to the fact that he knows he wasn’t Tottenham’s first choice.

Spurs have now chased both Mauricio Pochettino and Antonio Conte, but have been unsuccessful in their attempts to lure them.

Rumours that Ten Hag could still be Tottenham boss certainly seem to appeal to Spurs fans more than Fonseca, as covered by HITC.

And if Tottenham could convince him to join them, then that news would likely to be welcomed by supporters of the Liliywhites.
