Fabrizio Romano has provided a fresh update on Tottenham’s hunt for a new manager, after Erik ten Hag signed a new contract with Ajax.
The reliable Italian journalist tweeted that Spurs have decided to take a step back from the Dutchman after speaking to him in the last 48 hours.
It became apparent during those talks that Ten Hag would be staying with Ajax, so Tottenham will now meet with other managers.
Romano supplied two more nuggets of information when replying to two Tottenham fans in the comments section.
First, he claimed that Daniel Levy has ‘decided to go for’ other managers after speaking to Ten Hag.
In response to a second supporter, he revealed the meeting with the 51-year-old was ‘not positive’ and Levy is now looking elsewhere.
Romano added that Tottenham have three to four options to replace José Mourinho, and will now move on to their next candidate.
It should be mentioned that Ten Hag didn’t actually sign a brand new contract with Ajax.

The Dutch giants in fact triggered a one-year extension that was in his existing deal.
However, they surely did so with his consent, we’d presume.
So, who might Tottenham turn to now?

Well, The Sun claim that Levy has now given up on Brendan Rodgers, so it seems we can rule the Leicester boss out.
The likes of Gareth Southgate and Roberto Martinez have also been mentioned as potential appointments, as has Graham Potter.
Keep an eye on this situation, as there appears to be a fresh update nearly every day – Levy seems keen to find Mourinho’s replacement quickly.
