According to the Telegraph, Mainz 05 tactician Bo Svensson has emerged as a No.1 target for Wolves as they aim to replace Bruno Lage.

Wolves eye Bo Svensson

Well, you may be wondering who the 43-year-old actually is, seeing as he is far from a household name in the managerial world.

Svensson followed in the footsteps of Jürgen Klopp and Thomas Tuchel by taking the reins at Mainz 05 in January 2021, with the threat of relegation looming large.

However, the Dane led the German side to 12th in the Bundesliga that season, before guiding his team to eighth place last term against all odds.

Now, the Telegraph believe he could move to the Premier League with Wolves.

It is said that Svensson is at the top of the shortlist at Molineux alongside Julen Lopetegui after Lage was dismissed, with Wolves currently sitting 18th in the Premier League.

Wolves almost hired Lopetegui six years ago when Fosun first arrived in the Midlands, although he chose to take over the Spanish national team instead.

However, the Spaniard could be dismissed by Sevilla this week due to a run of poor results, with Wolves paying close attention to the situation.

Interestingly, Brighton also considered Svensson before deciding to hire Roberto De Zerbi.

Wolves could appoint a gem in Bo Svensson

As a result of his fine work in Germany, Svensson has even been likened to Klopp and Tuchel – it was The Athletic who made the bold comparison about the Mainz 05 boss, who actually worked under both managers during his playing days.

However, such is his selflessness, the Dane isn’t interested in hoovering up the acclaim.

Responding to the comparisons, Svensson said: “It’s down to the team.”

Despite his humility, Svensson’s efforts cannot be ignored.

Both Klopp and Tuchel have taken Europe by storm with their coaching ability, and if Svensson really is cut from the same cloth, Wolves could soon have a managerial gem in the Molineux dugout.
