Fabrizio Romano has told CaughtOffside that Newcastle United manager Eddie Howe wants Allan Saint-Maximin to stay amid interest from Antonio Conte’s Tottenham Hotspur.

The well-known and well-respected journalist has reported that Tottenham have always monitored Saint-Maximin and are interested in the Newcastle winger.

According to Romano, Newcastle boss Howe is a big fan of the Frenchman and wants him to stay at St. James’ Park next season.

The Athletic reported this week that Newcastle could sell the 25-year-old for £40 million.

Romano told CaughtOffside: “Eddie Howe is a big fan of Allan Saint-Maximin and wants him to continue as a key player for next season.

“So far, Tottenham have other priorities after the Ivan Perisic deal was completed. The club has always monitored Saint-Maximin, but let’s see if they will open negotiations with Newcastle.”

Should Allan Saint-Maximin leave Newcastle United for Tottenham Hotspur?

In our view, Allan Saint-Maximin should stay at Newcastle United and not move to Tottenham Hotspur in the summer transfer window.

Now, of course, we know that Tottenham are a big club who will play in the Champions League next season.

Tottenham also have a world-class manager in Antonio Conte.

However, Newcastle have very wealthy owners in PIF now, and they are just getting started on their grand project.

Saint-Maximin is still only 25, and his best years are ahead of him.

The £93,000-a-week (SalarySport) winger could be a key figure at Newcastle for years to come and could become a club hero.
