Manchester City playmaker Bernardo Silva is unable to move to FC Barcelona until Frenkie De Jong is sold by the club, with Manchester United still working on signing the Netherlands international.
According to Mundo Deportivo, the sale of the 25-year-old midfielder is the main reason behind why Silva’s ‘dream move’ to Barcelona is stalling, with the report stating that City have greenlit a deal for the Portuguese international to move to the Catalan giants this summer.
Reports suggest that City could earn as much as £80m from the sale of Silva, with Barcelona eager to sign the four-time Premier League champions as a replacement for De Jong, who has been linked with United all summer as well as Chelsea, with Xavi Hernandez desperate to offload the former Ajax superstar.
Barcelona’s financial problems have been well documented this summer, with the club selling off hundreds of millions worth of assets to both fund new signings as well as meet La Liga requirements to register new players, yet despite all the drama and shenanigans off the pitch, the Catalan side still want to sign Silva from City.
The midfielder didn’t start this weekend in City’s 2-0 win against West Ham in east London, with Silva coming on 12 minutes from time as Ilkay Gundogan was favoured by Pep Guardiola in what was a routine victory for the Manchester giants, with Erling Haaland’s brace stealing the headlines.
Whilst City fans will be desperate for Silva to stay at the Etihad Stadium, a move to Barcelona feels imminent, especially if a breakthrough is somehow made for De Jong to leave the Camp Nou in the coming weeks, though the chances of that happening feel rather small.
Silva will sign for Barcelona if they somehow manage to sell De Jong

Silva to Barcelona has been a rumour for the past 12 months, and now with a deal in place, it looks like United will be the stumbling block in what would be the Portuguese midfielder’s dream move to the La Liga giants, with the Red Devils signing De Jong growing more and more unlikely by the day.
The Dutch midfielder has been stubborn this summer in his desire to stay in Catalonia, yet United’s incompetence to complete a deal for the Barcelona star is even more laughable, and as a result, Silva could miss out on a huge move to the La Liga side due to City’s Manchester rivals.
