FC Barcelona are reportedly getting closer to signing Manchester City superstar Bernardo Silva, with Xavi Hernandez eager to bring the Portuguese international to the Camp Nou.
According to Sport, the La Liga giants are optimistic that they can complete a deal to sign the 27-year-old playmaker before Barcelona’s first league game of the season on August 13th, with the latest set of business packages being sold off being used to sign Silva from City.
Previous reports have suggested that the reigning Premier League giants will only sell Silva if they receive an offer of £80m, a club-record fee for a City player and a transfer that would break the record for the most amount generated from a single transfer window from any side ever in the English top-flight.
However, as you would expect, City are eager to keep hold of Silva this summer following the midfielder’s incredible performances for the club last season that saw the Manchester giants retain the Premier League title and go all the way to the UEFA Champions League semi-finals.
But, as per Sport, Barcelona is a club that Silva is eager to play for, and an offer from the Catalan giants could result in the Portuguese superstar quitting City to join Xavi in La Liga, even though the European side could financially suffer from making yet another huge transfer.
City could also struggle to find a replacement for Silva, and whilst there have been links to the likes of Lucas Paqueta, there’s no denying that it would take a monumental effort from Pep Guardiola to find a player as good as the former AS Monaco superstar.
Barcelona signing Silva could be disastrous for Manchester City

Silva has asserted himself as arguably the most entertaining player in the Premier League in recent years, and for City, Barcelona signing the midfield magician would be nothing short of disastrous for the Manchester side, who will find it near-impossible to replace the Portuguese international.
Indeed, with City set for an exciting era with Erling Haaland leading the line, Silva is at the perfect club to take his talents to the next level, and the circus that is Barcelona could be the last team the midfielder should be signing for this summer.
